What do the Maker Plus and Studio editions include?

Maker Plus ($229 founder, $269 regular) is the most popular edition: everything in Maker plus a Mini Isolation Grow Chamber (prevents agar drying and contamination while the petri lid is open during printing), extra culture/agar/lab tools, and a storage tool box — the bundled add-ons would cost more bought separately. Studio ($329 founder, $369 regular) is the creator edition and is available for pre-order: everything in Maker Plus plus a growth camera on a desktop gimbal for cinematic time-lapse, Red Monascus culture for two-color fungal prints, camera-control software built for fungal printing, and priority updates plus community support. Studio reserves with a 35% deposit and ships in 1–2 months.

Is it safe for a 13-year-old?

Yes. The kit uses non-pathogenic, education- and food-grade organisms, an eye-safe LED light module (no lasers), and sealed handling. We recommend adult setup for the first culture. See our safety page.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The neural cellular automaton app is fully no-code — you draw a shape and the model learns to grow it. Coding-curious users can dig into the parameters, but it's never required.

What keeps it useful after the first project?
