Live Physarum culture Food-safe dyes Ages 10+
★ Lab-grade living culture

Cultured and personally managed by Yewei Jun (10+ years, dedicated lab). Our Physarum has far higher sclerotium quality and post-revival vigor than ordinary slime molds — it grows easily and stays strong even in a bio-printer’s drier, light-exposed conditions, where common strains fail. The dyes were refined over years of repeated testing by Yewei Jun for the richest, most reliable color.

What it is

A living medium you can grow and color.

Slime mold isn't a plant, an animal, or a fungus — it's a Physarum, a brainless single-celled organism that creeps, pulses, and explores. It's one of the most captivating things you can grow, and with our kit you can dye it into color and turn its growth into living art.

FAQ

Slime mold kit — questions.

What is a slime mold kit?
A slime mold kit is a complete set for growing living slime mold (Physarum polycephalum) at home or in class. The FunguyLab kit adds food-safe dyes so you can dye the living slime mold into vivid, multi-color patterns. Everything is in the box — live culture, substrate, dyes, and tools — and no machine is required.
Can you dye slime mold different colors?
Yes. Physarum takes up pigment as it grows and moves. The included food-safe dyes let a single living culture grow in multiple colors at once, creating a living, color-changing artwork.
Is growing slime mold safe?
Yes. Physarum polycephalum is non-pathogenic and widely used in schools and labs. It's not a fungus and isn't harmful to healthy people or pets with normal handling — just wash hands after contact and keep it covered. Recommended for ages 10+.
What's included?
A live slime mold (Physarum) culture, food-safe dyes, growth substrate, and starter tools — a complete open-the-box kit. It's standalone and does not require the Mycelian Micro laser printer.
How fast does it grow?
Fast — Physarum visibly moves within hours and can fill a dish over a day or two at room temperature. That speed makes it a satisfying living medium to watch, dye, and photograph.
Do I need the Mycelian Micro machine?
No. The Slime Mold Kit is fully standalone. If you also own (or add) the Mycelian Micro laser printer, you can go further and guide slime-mold growth with light — but it's not required.
